A Question, Time, and River

"Who am I?"

Depending on how you have decided to live your life and the obstacles you face, this question could have a lot of very different answers, even for one person.

Am I defined by what I believe? Am I defined by what I look like, how I dress, what I do? Am I defined by what I know and how I use it? Am I simply a scientific anomaly?

I could be...

...but behind the question and the answers that come to the surface lies an idea and concept beyond explanation and definition...

..however, some sort of medium through which one can understand is needed...

...there is an essence, within the world and the things we know, that vibrates and emanates in a similar way as the being. That is, I am a part of everything around me. The very same as my polar opposite, and yet unique in itself. In me there is breath from the air of centuries long past, and power to shake through the future and its generations.

If I take the time to dream through worlds that have passed and discern their meanings and significance, I can understand and progress in the present and clearly see the future.

Swimming through an infinite and turbulent river of life, we must come to see things for what they are beyond the surface and use what we know to find our way to safety and calm on the banks.
There are times that you may see others drowning or swimming in the wrong direction. At those times, it is natural to feel a desire to go to help them, but sometimes there are people who will simple drag you down with them. Other times, there are too many people crying for your help at once. Ideally, you would be able to go to the bank and help them from safety, but often it would be too far to really help.
At those times, you may go between the bank and those in need of help, getting in the river when you need to and leading from the bank when you can. You may stay with one person only briefly to help them swim for themselves before you move on to the next, or you could stay with one person through their struggles and oversee their safety. You may even choose to leave everyone else to their own struggles and fight only to get yourself to safety, ultimately leaving isolating yourself (and cutting off your chances to recieve help).
There are so many options...
...I hope to be the kind of person who can lead many people in the right direction, teach them what they need to know to reach the bank, and eventually see them to safety. I've always hoped to be that kind of person. There are so many ways to answer "how", that I know I need only to decide to do it (and pathways shall appear). However, the question of "who" remains... who should I help? Who am I to make such a bold and difficult decision, can I even do it? The question repeats and remains, "who am I"?

I have heard many stories of self discovery and enlightenment of truth, but I have to find those things for myself.

Some of the wise have said,
"I think, therefore I am."
Those in a world of darkness and pain have thought,
"I can say no, therefore I am."
However I must understand it now, I am.
